Harvard Style Formatting Guide

Many citation and referencing formatting styles have their own specific documentation manuals, however, there is no specific source documentation for the Harvard Style. CiteProf has therefore worked hard to create a Harvard referencing and citation generator, as well as a references guide, based upon the best practices of many universities and generally accepted Harvard style formatting practices.

Rule for Bibliography / References Entry:
To cite a book, list the following elements in order:
    1. Name(s) of the author(s) (Author #1 Last Name, Initials);
    2. Year of publication (within parentheses);
    3. Title of the book (italicized and within quotations);
    4. Place of publication;
    5. Publisher's name;
    6. Page number(s).

Rule for Bibliography / References Entry:
To cite a journal / periodical, list the following elements in order:
    1. Name(s) of the author(s) (Author #1 Last Name, Initials);
    2. Year of publication (within parentheses);
    3. Title of the article (within quotations);
    4. Title of the publication (italicized);
    5. Volume number;
    6. Page number(s).
